Fire and Ice (hot candle wax and cold chains) Print E-mail

You can increase the perceived heat of hot wax using ice to contrast with, which makes the wax seem much hotter; this is the technique called "Fire and Ice."

A few weeks ago, I met "Puppy" at a local hotel room and tried a twist on the "Fire and Ice" technique.

I put a length of chain in the ice bucket as soon as we arrived, then sent him to fill the bucket with ice. The chain sat for about an hour as we caught up on news, before we actually began scening.

I generally prefer to use plain white utility candles for hot wax scenes. They're not all "fetishy" looking, but the wax heats to a standard degree so I can be pretty certain of not inadvertently inflicting burns. I save the "kewl" black candles with glittery metallic bits in them for atmosphere rather than for wax scenes.

The advantage of using chain instead of ice is that since it doesn't melt, it stays cold a lot longer than ice. And dragging the chain across the submissive's skin provides a "texture" to the cold sensation.

I had him cuffed and shackled spreadeagled to the bed and ran the chain across his body. Then I left it coiled across his belly and began dripping hot wax within an inch of the chain. Puppy yelped in a quite satisfying manner!

I've used ice cubes on subs before, but I never thought of using a frozen chain! That's a brilliant idea, and with so many variables...

*nips off to pop the nipple clamps in the freezer*

Love ya,
