If you are a citizen of the US or Canada, there is a national election coming up that you should participate in. Canada's 40th General Election is scheduled for October 14, 2008 and the US general election is scheduled for November 4, 2008.

To vote in a US election, you must register in advance. The deadline for registering varies from state to state. Best bet is to register right now!

The Obama campaign has a site where you can register to vote. You can use the site no matter who you plan to vote for.

In Canada, registering to vote is semi-automatic, registration information being taken from public records (tax forms, birth certificates, citizenship applications, etc.) Generally, all citizens are registered unless homeless, incarcerated or living outside of Canada, in which case you may need to register; there's more information here.

Be sure to mark your calendar to watch the televised debates if you're uncertain of your position.

In the US, the three presidential and vice-presidential debates will be broadcast by CNN International and BBC World and can also be viewed live at www.mydebates.org (requires Flash).

You can also learn more about the parties and candidates at nonpartisan sites: the League of Women Voters for the US or Elections Canada. From these sites, you can learn more about the parties and candidates and find links to the individual campaign sites to read more from the candidates themselves.

Participate in the process!
