A psychogenic orgasm is one that occurs entirely from mental stimulation rather than physical stimulation. It it the thesis of this blog post that sexuality is primarily mental, rather than physical; as they say, the largest sex organ is the brain.
For those who think I'm full of it, I suggest an experiment: spend a half hour masturbating while thinking non-sexual thoughts vs. spending a half hour fantasizing thinking very hot thoughts while not touching yourself. If you have a functional frontal lobe, you'll find thinking does more for you than directly stimulating your genitals. It was way back in college that I first found out how much of sex was in the mind. There was a guy I was flirting with quite a bit. I had a roommate, so we never managed to be alone, and the flirting got to a ridiculous degree before an opportunity arose to do anything about our mutual attraction. We're talking weeks of innuendo, flirting, building tension. When we finally had a few stolen moments alone, he kissed my neck and I came while still fully dressed! When you're that aroused, physical sex is almost irrelevant. Conversely, there's times I start masturbating and get distracted by thoughts about what I need to do tomorrow and wind up falling asleep without ever finishing. Just playing with wabbly bits doesn't necessarily do it if my brain isn't steeped in sex. Some folks can get to the psychogenic orgasm via pornography, books, web sites, movies, imagery, or just their own imaginations. IMO, building a fantasy with someone else is even more intense; two creative, imaginative brains are better than one. In physical sex, being with someone else is better than being alone because they touch you in unexpected ways, surprise you, come up with things you haven't thought of yourself. The give-and-take is hotter than anything you can do on your own. In mental sex, the same applies - creating a story with another interesting brain is more fun than creating one on your own. This is what makes so amazingly intense. It's not just seeing a lady type nasty words or hearing her voice as she says them; it's the brain behind it sharing with you, tweaking your own thoughts and feelings, playing with your mind more than your genitals.
