This book was written by Samois, a lesbian feminist BDSM group based in San Francisco from 1978 to 1983.
The book consists of short stories (porn) and essays (political) from a time when a section of the feminist movement decided the way to earn equality for women was to beat up leatherdykes. This book is part of BDSM history, whether gay, bi or straight. The essays are important and thought-provoking. And the discussions are still relevant today as the argument about whether women get to choose what to do with their bodies still comes from some "feminists," ironically in league with fundamentalists. These groups may not agree with each other in all details about what we're allowed to do, but they agree strongly that we are not the ones who should decide. But I should save my political diatribe for another post. While, Coming to Power is about politics, it is also about coming. This is no dry tome, indeed the book is wet, wet, wet! The thought-provoking essays are interspersed with hot short stories written by the members of Samois, so overall the book is written to stimulate both your brain and your genitals. In short, it is an unapologetic celebration of lesbian BDSM. Highly recommended for all BDSMers of any sexual orientation as well as all feminists. Add your comment |
